Ladies and Gentlemen,

On Friday, 21 February 2020, the Navy Supply Corps Foundation - Philadelphia Chapter will commemorate the 225th Birthday of the Navy Supply Corps at the Union League of Philadelphia. The number one city club in the United States is the perfect place for our annual Birthday Ball and will give local Supply Corps Officers, past and present, the opportunity to share in our Naval heritage.

This year’s keynote speaker is Chris Gheysens, President and CEO of Wawa, a chain of more than 870 convenience stores located in six states and Washington, D.C. Known for its fresh food and award-winning coffee, Wawa is a family and associate-owned, privately held company.  Approximately 36,000 associates provide convenient, friendly and inviting experiences for over 1.6 million customers every day.  The company began in the early 1800’s in New Jersey with an iron foundry and a cotton and textile mill, and eventually migrated to Pennsylvania with the opening of a dairy plant in 1902.  As home delivery of dairy declined and supermarkets became more abundant in the early 1960’s, the concept to open Wawa convenience stores became a reality with the first store opening in Folsom, PA on April 16, 1964.

Chris is also the chairperson of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the Villanova School of Business and serves on the WSFS Bank Board of Directors, where he chairs the Audit Committee.  Chris joined The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Board of Trustees in 2017; in 2019 he was appointed as the current Vice Chairman and Chairman elect, and he led the formation of their first Corporate Council.  A highly regarded Philadelphia community leader, Chris has been invited to address audiences on numerous occasions and will now share in the celebration of the Navy Supply Corps’ rich history.
