The Oakleaf: Summer Issue NOW ONLINE!
The Oakleaf: Summer Issue NOW ONLINE!
The Summer issue of The Oakleaf is available online now! With articles written by Committee Chairs, Chapter leaders, and many of our Members, you’ll get news from across the Supply Community. Our cover stories shine the light on new Board Member CAPT (ret) Jennifer Lednicky, recently transitioned CAPT (ret) Andy Matthews, and our 2021 Volunteers and Chapters-of-the-Year award winners. We also celebrate our 2022-23 Foundation Scholarship recipients, while thanking the Scholarship Program’s generous donors who make this gift a reality! A few of our young achievers are profiled in this issue.

Speaking of achievers, the Supply Community is full of them! Read about the Volunteer and Chapter of the Year award winners on page 9, meet new Spouse Representative Lydia Koh on page 12, and join our Staff Hail & Farewell as we thank longtime Administrative Assistant Cindy Inglett and welcome new Executive Assistant Teresa Hood on page 13.

Starting on page 14, Members tell their Supply Corps story, in their own words. CAPT (ret) Bob Rodine and LCDR (ret) Glenn Munkres are just two of the many Members who have shared their stories with us. On page 17, History buff CAPT (ret) Donald Hoffmann continues his discovery of the Navy’s first Purser, in part 2 of 3.

As exemplified in this issue, our Supply Corps Family’s connection crosses generations. On page 22, LCDR Garrett Bond introduces us to a group of WWII, Korea and Vietnam Veterans in his article on the Honor Flight Program. Then we hear from LCDR (ret) Zenobia Shepherd and learn of RADM Kristin Aquavella’s compassion and kindness in the wake of a family tragedy. And, don’t miss the photo of a special meeting between two SUPPOs on page 18!

Each issue of The Oakleaf brings our Community together, as we share memories of our past and create opportunities for new experiences. What would you like to contribute to The Oakleaf? Active, retired, reserve, former and family members are encouraged to submit articles, pictures, news and updates to theoakleaf@usnscf.com. Please keep submissions limited to 300 words and two images with captions. Ready to share your Supply Corps story? Email mysupplycorpsstory@usnscf.com or call (706) 354-4111 to learn how your memories can become a part of the Supply Corps archives.
