November 2022 ~ NSCF eNewsletter
November 2022 ~ NSCF eNewsletter
Dear Fellow Supply Corps Officers and Friends,

Please take a few minutes to read the November issue of the Foundation's eNewsletter--it includes three important topics related to our Community.

Named Scholarship policy update

Beginning with the 2023-24 Scholarship Season, the Navy Supply Corps Foundation Board of Directors has revised the minimum amount for a Named Scholarship from $1,000 to $2,500 to provide for more meaningful scholarships, especially with the rising costs of higher education. This policy change will enable the Foundation to comply with the IRS restrictions and award larger scholarships to our recipients. Annual Named Scholarships can take up most of the available scholarship opportunities and reduce the ability to award higher value scholarships from the perpetual endowments. Scholarship donations less than $2,500 will still be accepted and grouped into larger scholarships, with donor recognition in The Oakleaf. In parallel, the Foundation continues to actively market and promote the Scholarship Program to increase the applicant pool and corresponding number of potential scholarships.

Planning for Social Security benefits

Social Security is part of a retirement plan for most Americans, but knowing when and how to apply social security benefits can be challenging. A retirement plan should be based on today's knowledge but allow for future adaptations as circumstances change. Certainly deciding when to collect Social Security is a major retirement decision, but there are related decisions that can influence future income. Financial planning includes learning ways to maximize your benefits. Understanding Social Security options can start you on your way to financial success in retirement. The NSCF offers a free weekly e-newsletter to assist Members with common concerns regarding retirement planning.

Professional Certification/Licenses Grant Program

Attaining a professional certification can be costly. The NSCF Professional Certification/Licenses Grant Program assists transitioning officers with the costs incurred attaining a certification or license to enhance a civilian logistics career opportunity up to $500. Examples of professional logistics certificates that are available for Supply Officers and enlisted supply personnel are: Supply Chain Professional (CSCP); Foodservice Management Professional (FMP); Certified Professional Contract Manager; and Financial Management Certification. Professional certifications and licenses can offer members a competitive advantage over candidates without certificates and lead to higher wages.
